And so is COVID
Ha! That one too? Since when?
Since COVID-19 started.
But last year and the years before we had Valentine
Yes you did, in fact we all did
But that was in the years 2019 or 2018 BC
Did you say BC? Before Christ?
No, Before Corona.
Aha!
So what’s gonna happen this year?
It’s up to you
To be wise with your head
Or flutter with your heart to peril
Sebi something must kill a (wo)man na?
But Ol’ boy na wa o
So na so all those wines go waste
Even the flowers
And candle light dinners
And the special hotel room rates
And allied matters
I remember those days
Well, just reminisce on them and let go.
But I have seen many Valentine’s adverts though
Sure, man must wack na
The businesses are in business to profit
Not to give you sense if you cannot borrow one
In this age of social distancing and masking
Think of distant Valentining
And Virtual Valentine
Send the flowers to the ones you love
Send them wines too if you care
And chocolates and perfumes
Boxers, singlets and lingeries
But keep your social distancing from them
Unless they are people ordinarily in your social bubble
Stay away from the parties
Avoid the crowd at eateries
Skip all the group events
And keep yourself and loved ones safe and alive
To be around to celebrate many more Valentine’s and other seasons.
The ones you love will understand
And maybe appreciate you better
For not throwing them under the Valentine celebration bus.
But this COVID?

It is out there waiting to devour.
