I found another treasure from my family archives. It’s a book gift from the Calabar Improvement League to my grandfather on his transfer from Port Harcourt to Lagos in 1947. My grandfather, Mr Effiom Obo Effanga worked with the Custom Service.I also find it interesting that our forebears invested in books and knowledge and would consider a book as good enough gift for a send off. Compare that to today’s usual send off gifts and tell me which lasts longer with great memories. The book itself is an interesting read. One of those who translated the book to English language is Hastings Banda. Remember him? He would later become the first prime minister and later president of Malawi from Independence in 1964 until 1994.
